Hidden gem in Ireland
Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club
Play golf at Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club in the Southeast of Ireland and you will know the brochure text is spot-on. “Surrounded by fantastic scenery, a forest and the River Slaney frame this magnificent course to perfection”. The lovely surroundings of this relatively new club make for a wonderful golf weekend or holiday.
Although the Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club is a new addition (since 2009) to the Irish golfing tradition, it has already proven to be the premier golf courses in the Southeast. Bunclody is special, in many ways.
First of all, the course – design: Jeff Howes – runs over 7200 yards; the length and the lay-out undeniably make it a championship golf course. It is situated in 300 acres of breathtaking parklands in the former Hall-Dare Estate on the Carlow Wexford border. Because of its great location and looks, it is already ranked in the top 21 parkland courses in Ireland and was recently voted 'The Best Hidden Gem in Ireland'. The course runs on the banks of the river Slaney and has a rich diversity of golf holes. An interesting aspect of this course is the elevator. The golf course includes Ireland’s first ever elevator linking the 17th green with the 18th tee. The elevator will take you from the 17th up 5 floors to the 18th tee box giving a bird’s eye view over the river as you ascend.
In short: playing golf here is an adventure in itself.
Everything you need
The Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club offers everything you need to have a great time. It has as fully stocked Professional shop from where the resident Golf professional Ian Kerr operates the Golf Academy. The club features a circular clubhouse with its traditional reed thatched roof boasting outstanding views of the course with Mount Leinster in the background. The club house has the characteristics of an old historic golf club yet it boasts state-of-the-art amenities. The luxurious locker rooms and sauna provide weary golfers with a place to relax and unwind. Last but not least, the clubhouse has a top class bar and restaurant, offering a warm welcome and tempting menu with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and of Mount Leinster.
Beautiful Hall-Dare Estate
If you are planning a golf trip to this region, staying at the Carlton Millrace Hotel is an option. The hotel is located on the edge of the beautiful Hall-Dare Estate, home to The Bunclody Golf & Fishing Club. This luxurious hotel in Wexford offers a location for a break away to explore the Sunny South East of Ireland.
You will not get bored. After golf, the region has plenty to offer. The town of Bunclody shares the Adare-style rustic charm and the luxurious Carlton Millrace Hotel is located just across from the entrance of Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club, Co. Wexford. And if Bunclody is not big enough for you, there is also Kilkenny, Laois, Waterford, Wicklow and of course Dublin that are worth visiting.
