Prince Edward Island (PEI) is an exciting golf destination in the Far East of Canada. It offers twenty great courses on an island between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The island has been inhabited for more than 9,000 years but only got 'discovered' back in 1534 by the French. After 200 years of French occupation the English came, followed by highland Scotts and – later – the Irish, which gives the island its distinctive Celtic feel and heritage.

Charlottetown, PEI’s capital is a cozy provincial town with typical wooden houses, Celtic bars and great seafood restaurants. On PEI, seafood is the dish of choice with locally cultivated oysters, lobster, the famous PEI mussels and freshly caught fish, a lot of which you can find in the Seafood Chowder. The town lies virtually in the middle of the island, from where you can easily get to any of the golf courses.

Complimentary mussels after your round

The golf industry on PEI has developed significantly over the past few years with 21 courses dotted around the island. The oldest one, Green Gables, dates back to 1939. PEI depends on the visiting golfer, and therefore all the golf courses are very welcoming. Many courses give you complimentary mussels after your round, which is a nice touch and obviously causes the taps to flow. Other notable courses are the Links at Crowbush Cove with its spectacular scenery. Fox Meadow, which is a very pleasant and playable course and both Eagles Glen and Anderson’s Creek near Cavendish are proud of their Scottish heritage. On Anderson’s Creek for example and during the summer months, golfers are greeted by a bag pipe player. Dundarave on the East side of the Island, hides in a 500 acres domain and each hole seems to play in its own amphitheater.

30 minutes from the tee

There are plenty of hotels, guesthouses and cottages for rent, all within 30 minutes from any first tee. The season is relatively short with cold and dark winters but mild and sunny summers with plenty of daylight so you could get in two rounds quite easily.
